METAL ARMOR CARE & MAINTENANCE

Please do not leave your armor lying in the grass after removing it. The acid and humidity from the grass tend to accelerate the rust giving it a permanent stain that only buffing with compound and paste can remove.

When you have finished LARPing, remove your armor and let it dry in the sun as you tear down your camp. The sun's ultraviolet radiation and increased water temperatures work together to kill harmful bacteria in the water.

For leather parts, a wax or silicone spray may be applied periodically to ensure its durability (In some cases, mink oil can be used). CAUTION: Wet leather will rust the exposed parts of metal on the armor.

Storage & Maintenance

Step One:

Clean the entire surface first using brake cleaner! The cleaner will ensure there is no humidity on the surface, and it will also remove dirt and other impurities on the surface of the metal. Don't be shy, spray a liberal amount on the surface then wipe it off with a clean, dry cloth. This stuff dries in seconds and has a nasty smell, but it works great to prep the surface.

Step Two:

Spray a liberal amount of WD-40 onto the surface of the metal then rub using the steel wool in a circular pattern to remove the surface Rust. Repeat as many times as necessary, then remove excess using a dry cloth.

Storing in a clean, dry place is very important. So if you place it in a plastic container in the basement, make sure it is off the floor and in a heated or dry room. You can add a silica gel pack to help absorb excess amounts of humidity and to ensure the armor does not rust.
